First Lite Records, Inc. Profile

First Lite Records, Inc. was started in 1992 by Stephen T. Sturkie in Hartsville, South Carolina. A friend of Stephen’s called him one day and ask him to come to his office.  Upon arrival Stephen met Doc McKenzie and from there First Lite Records was born.  Within a few weeks Doc McKenzie became the first artist to sign on First Lite Records. 

First Lite Records came to be a household name in the gospel music industry with hits from The William Sisters “Live On The East Coast” and Doc McKenzie “Live”.    With these releases Stephen proved he had the gift to find talent in an artist and help make them into names that still stand strong in gospel music today.  The staff at First Lite Records chose not to look at what the have accomplished in the past but instead looks towards the future and the hits that are sure to be released from this label. 

First Lite Records newest releases (2007) include The Anointed Hinds Sisters, The Gospel Jubilee Singers and  Youngblood & The New Gospels Seekers.  Other releases include Tammy Edwards & The Edwards Sisters, The Virginia Aires, Paul Thompson & The Royal Priesthood and Greg Logins & In Christ (now available on DVD). In January 2003 Cindy Gainey took a leap of faith and left a promising career in the Darlington County court system to become the General Manager for First Lite Records, Inc.  Cindy quickly learned how important relationships are in this industry and has strongly relied on her two mentors; Stephen Sturkie, First Lite Records President and Bishop Sam Williams, Vice Chair to the National Gospel Announcers Guild, for their guidance and support.  The Lord has shown much favor to Cindy’s career; in December 2006 Cindy was appointed to the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Gospel Announcers Guild by Guild President Pastor Arvetra Jones.   

Since Cindy became General Manager, First Lite Records has had three artists to win Prestige Awards presented by the North Carolina Gospel Announcers Guild.  In 2005 Tammy Edwards & The Edwards Sisters won Female Quartet of the Year; The Virginia Aires won Male Quartet of the Year in 2006 and Youngblood & The New Gospel Seekers won Group of the Year at the 2007 convention. 

As Cindy started her career in the Gospel Music Industry she developed a desire to learn graphic art design and feels that The Lord has blessed her by increasing her talents to now include graphic art design and web design.  Cindy is the web designer for both First Lite Records and Bradley House Music’s web site.  She has designed CD covers for multiple artists including The Virginia Aires “Live In The Country II”, Youngblood & The New Gospel Seekers “Live In Hartsville South Carolina”, The Gospel Jubilee Singers “Consecrated” and The Anointed Hinds Sisters “The Cross”.   

In 2004 she served as a judge at the GMWA New Artist Showcase in Kansas City, MO and was a panelist at Luther Barnes 8^th Annual Fall Gospel Classic conducting a workshop on “Packaging the Product”.  She also served as a guest judge in 2006 for C Link Productions at their Christian Talent Showcase in Maryland. In July 2007 Cindy served as a judge at the 2nd Annual HP Virginia Gospel Showcase and presented a workshop.

Using the talents God has granted her along with the knowledge she has gained about the industry, she is now venturing into another endeavor.  First Promotions Plus, a new division of First Lite Records, Inc., will do graphic art design, web design, radio promotions and tracking along with other marketing and promotions tools for independent artist.  More information will soon be released regarding First Promotions Plus.

First Lite Records would like to thank all of the artist that have shown an interest in becoming part of  "Our Family".  Due to the overwhelming request of artist looking to First Lite Records for distribution, we have now made a distribution package available to artist.  Our distribution package will allow artist to receive national airplay and national sales.  We encourage artist that are business minded and prepared to go to the "NEXT LEVEL" to contact us to learn more about our distribution package.  We will only be accepting a "SELECT FEW" for distribution so we look forward to reviewing your project.  Please call or email Cindy Gainey for additional information.
