The Edwards Sisters Biography

Anointed and chosen by God, The Edwards Sisters travel the country by faith spreading messages God has spoken to us to deliver. Tammy (oldest sister/lead singer), Tonia (2nd sister/soprano), the late Tina (May 1967 to Nov 1990), Tonette (4th sister/baritone) and Phyllis (cousin/alto/2nd lead) have harmonized together for over 25 years. 

In the early 1970’s, as little as “tots”, God anointed us to sing praises.  Our father, James, (a guitarist and member of a gospel group) often carried the sisters and an aunt (Wanda) with him on programs and let us perform during the collection time.  Our mother, Diana, was always there.  Mom and Dad still travel with us now to manage and assist in any area needed. 

In the early 1980’s, cousins Phyllis and Sharon joined the group.  Later Sharon and Wanda ventured out to pursue other interests.  Through the years, cousins and friends came and left, but Tammy, Tonia, Tina, Tonette and Phyllis managed to stay together.  In 1985, the group recorded locally our first single, “I Love The Lord”.  In 1987, a second recording was done called “Jesus Never Fails”.  In November of 1990, the circle was broken when God called home the third sister, Tina, at the age of 22.  The family and group suffered a tremendous loss but God brought us through it.  In 1994, another recording was done in memory of Tina, “I Made A Vow”.

 In 1995, God opened doors for the group to venture out on a higher level.  That’s when “Edwards Sisters Live” was recorded in Greenville, NC and later released on the Vital Records label, a subsidiary of Big Mo Recording in Thetford, Vermont.

 In July 1999, The Edwards Sisters recorded our 2nd live recording in Greenville, NC called “Edwards Sisters Live II in Greenville NC”.  In October 2003 God even took us higher and allowed The Edwards Sisters to be accepted in The First Lite Family.  “Push” is our first release with First Lite Records.  We love the family we are now in with Steve and Cindy and all of the artist.  We are looking for greater blessings!

 The Edwards Sisters have been blessed to appear on the same stage with some of America’s finest gospel artist such as: The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Lee Williams, Shirley Caesar, Vickie Winans, Yolanda Adams, Christianaires, Williams Brothers and many more.  We have received  numerous awards, including the Dawson Award hosted by Dr. Bobby Jones in Trenton, NC.
